Douro Azul, Viking Cruises
Built by West Sea, part of the Martifer Group, at the shipyards of Viana do Castelo in Portugal, this was the third vessel in the Viking fleet produced for the Douro River. The interior concept for the Viking Osfrid, following the brand’s Nordic-inspired guidelines in motifs and patterns, as well as the use of natural wood and organic materials, presented an interesting challenge in the approach to the art elements throughout the ship, from the cabins to the public areas.

On a journey between Scandinavia and Portugal, the approach proposed by PPS sought to translate Nordic-inspired geometric elements into tilework, expressed across various panels in the cabins and bar, as well as in fabrics and textures. In the corridors, photographs of the harvest are abstracted into surfaces shaped by form and backlit light. The cohesive language of the interiors prioritised material quality within a demanding structure oriented towards the future.
