Located in a place of memory, in the former premises of Real Companhia Velha, in Vila Nova de Gaia, Hotel do Cais would of course be inspired by the imagery of port wine lodges.
Despite some limitations in terms of space, with small rooms and low ceilings, architect Pilar Paiva de Sousa wanted to bring to the Hotel do Cais project the luxurious comfort of a place with the tactile memory of port wine cellars. To that end, PPS developed two options: the first, with more neutral tones but highlighting the contrast between noble and natural materials and textures, with a more industrial finished wall; and the other, where the color green is used as a starting point for evoking the shades of bottle glass and, again, comfortable textures, framing the landscape and creating a more intimate environment.
